Consists of an elected body of parish members who work as advisers to the pastor on parish operations and activities. Current members are Kelly Walters, chairperson; David Dwornick, vice-chairperson; Tessa Smith, secretary; Annette Haley and Bill Vollmerhausen, Vicariate representatives. The Parish Pastoral Council is an elected body of parish members who advise and work with the Pastor to coordinate all parish activities. Members are elected for two-year terms, and a rotating group of three members usually joins or leaves the council every year. Some members of the council serve as liaisons to individual parish commissions — Worship, Christian Service, Education and Finance.
Meetings occur once a month on Mondays with a recess of two months each summer. Members of the parish are able to bring their concerns to the Council by means of letter, e-mail or through approved members of the council.
St.Timothy church is in the process of forming a Christian Service group that focuses energy on trying to meet the needs of the greater Trenton area. This commission coordinates various ministries that can bring needed goods to those who have little or none. They also coordinate our parish picnic and other social gatherings throughout the year.
NOTE: Currently, we are without a Christian Service chairman. We desperately need new members and a new chairman for this commission. Looking for generous people willing to be part of this rewarding group that helps us put faith into action. Please call the office if you can help. And please consider coming up with ideas of how our parish can serve others as a member of this important ministry.
A twofold mission defines this group of parish volunteers: Outreach and Fellowship.
Outreach — The focus is on trying to meet the needs of the greater Trenton area. For a variety of reasons, some people from our geographical area may be unable to adequately fulfill the needs of their families. The Christian Service Commission coordinates various ministries that can bring needed goods to those who have little or none. These ministries include: Capuchin Clothing Drive – Spring and Fall, Food Drive to help the Trenton Food Pantry, a Knitting and Crocheting outreach group, Shoe Drive, Giving Tree at Christmas, and many others.
Fellowship — Members also coordinate parish social activities. These include the Feast of St. Timothy Potluck Dinner, an annual Ethnic Dinner, an annual trip to the Toledo Mud Hens Baseball game, a summer Golf Outing, an annual Parish Picnic, and more throughout the year. We welcome you to join in any or all of our parish activities.
Advises the pastor on the church’s budget and monetary needs.
St. Timothy’s pastor personally selects members for this important commission. They serve in an advisory capacity to the pastor, and must have expertise in financial matters to meet the needs of our parish family.
Works together to deliver good liturgical expressions of our faith. This group of dedicated parishioners oversees all forms of worship at the church.
Our Worship Commission consists of a group of dedicated parishioners who work together to deliver meaningful liturgical expressions of our Eucharistic celebrations. We all know that it takes many people to bring the Mass to life. Worship Commission members arrange to have people serve in many different liturgical ministries at each Mass. These include altar servers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, Eucharistic coordinators, ushers, greeters, church decorators, choir members and more. One of our great needs right now is for funeral lunch volunteers. If you can bring a dish to pass, help set up or clean up,or help call volunteers from our list, please consider helping with this or any ministry. We warmly welcome all volunteers–the need is always there.
Members of the Worship Commission also work closely with the music ministers to make sure that the themes presented in the scriptures are those incorporated into song for our parishioners.
Members of this commission meet to review prior liturgical events and to look for themes which may allow the congregation to celebrate more prayerfully. WE HOPE TO PROVIDE SERVICES THAT WILL ENABLE EACH MEMBER OF OUR CHURCH TO HAVE A BLESSED RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST.
Like the people we serve, we are always in need, and now the need is urgent! We are in great need of volunteer workers to do the work of God in our corner of the world. Please call the parish office at 734-676-5115 for more information. If you see a need for a new ministry, let us know.
MEAP PROGRAM COMES TO RESCUE : MEAP is an exciting program here at St. Tim’s, through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The Michigan Energy Assistance Program helps people in need with their utility bills, especially when a shut-off is looming. Help is available with gas bills, electric bills, even propane bills if you heat your home with propane gas. Obviously, there are guidelines to be followed. We want to help you! Please call 676-5115 and we will arrange to meet with you to go over your specific situation.
It will only take an hour of your time, and nobody needs to know that we are helping you – anonymity is always in place when you deal with our organization. Please do not let your pride get in the way. If you need the help – ASK FOR IT. Likewise, if you have a family member or a neighbor in need, give them the above phone number and we will take it from there.
SVDP Background at ST. TIMOTHY
St. Timothy has a conference of the St.Vincent de Paul Society that has been in existence for nearly 25 years. Our conference is a Catholic lay organization of men and women volunteers from the parish. Members are called Vincentians. Qualifications for members consist of understanding the core values of service to the poor, humility and charity. Essential elements of the society are to furnish the following: Material assistance: (food, clothing, furniture). Financial assistance: (rent, utilities, travel). Special works: (stores, pantries).
We have a great group that meets from September through May for prayer, fun, fellowship and support. They meet the first and third Tuesdays of the Month at 6:30 p.m. in the Fontana Social Hall.
The Special Needs group wants to thank everyone for all their support throughout the years. Special thanks to the Knights of Columbus who sponsor a Tootsie Roll Drive to help pay for Special Needs activities.
Also, please patronize and donate to the second hand store Tried and True 2 in Southgate where two members of St. Tim’s group are employed. Proceeds benefit people with special needs.
Incorporating adults with special needs into the fabric of church life is the goal of St. Timothy’s successful special needs program. The group comprises people from the area. They assist at Mass, help out in various activities such as Coffee & Donuts after Sunday Masses, and are involved in many other ways under the direction of Theresa Kramer and some great volunteers. We are blessed to have them in our church family. You don’t have to belong to the parish to join. For more information, please call 313-410-3309.
PLEASE NOTE: The Trenton Food Pantry housed at St. Timothy is no longer distributing food from our location but we collect food for the pantry, which is now distributed from St. Philip Lutheran Church. We welcome donations of food and a drop off box is located in our lobby for non-perishable food items.
St. Philip Lutheran Church is located at 1790 Fort St., Trenton. Food distribution is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays. For more information, please call St. Philip Church at 734-676-7141.
Reading loud and clear “the Word of the Lord” at Mass is a lector’s job. They also lead a prayerful psalm response from the congregation when a cantor is not available. Anyone who has received the sacrament of Confirmation is eligible to “tell the Good News.”
*Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers formation is held periodically at St. Timothy. Sponsored by the Archdiocese. Call the parish office at 734-676-5115 to sign up or for more information.
Volunteers help the priest distribute Holy Communion under both forms — bread and wine — during Mass.
Parishioners are trained to help keep order by seating people, handling emergencies, distributing and collecting donation baskets, and more.
Welcoming every person with a smile and a friendly hello is easy for these volunteers.
Volunteers think of serving at Mass as an extension of how they help out at home. Visiting priests are pleased to see St. Tim’s has married couples, family members, and friends who are altar servers. A short training session that fits their schedule is the goal. Also, a coordinator will provide notes and act as mentor at an altar server’s first Mass. Servers are normally scheduled once a month and usually pick the Mass time and date that works best for them.
Service includes:
A call to the church office is all it takes to join this much-needed ministry.
It doesn’t take much time to wash and dry altar linens used in the celebration of the Mass, and this ministry is in great need of people to help out. Please call 734-676-5115.
Please contact Mary Stermer to learn more about Christian Service. Call 734-676-5115.
No matter the liturgical season of the year (Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, ordinary time), our worship space is always beautiful thanks to the artistic talents of these parishioners.
Consecrated hosts are taken to homes/hospitals/nursing facilities or wherever there are people too ill to attend Mass. Please call the parish office at 734-676-5115 for more information.
